A top official in the Uganda National Roads Authority has been forced to surrender houses worth about shs1.2b which he refused to declare to the Inspectorate of Government.
The senior official has been identified as William Tumwine, who works as the head of policy and rulings in the legal directorate of UNRA.
We have since established that a probe commenced against Tumwine after IGG came to learn that he had not declared his wealth which did not tally with his source of income.
The official did not have enough explanation to defend the source of his income, prompting IGG to swing into action.
This was one of the cases last handled by IGG Irene Mulyagonja before being transferred.
The apartments were located in Wakiso district and their return was based on an out of court settlement.
According to the Leadership Code Act, 2002, the IGG has powers to confiscate underdeclared property in the hands of a public officer.
Tumwine had earlier been cleared by an internal probe at UNRA.
