RAKAI.The search for the bodies of two brothers, who drowned in River Kibaale in Rakai district on Wednesday, has been concluded today.

The incident occurred at Lulala village in Kawunguli parish, Kifamba sub-county on Wednesday.     The first body of John Makumbi, 20, was retried on Wednesday evening, and that of Kizito Ssendikadiwa today.

They had gone swimming with their two friends when the tragic incident happened.

Omaru Luwondela, 13, who knew how to swim managed to save one of his colleagues but failed on the two brothers due to the rapid water flow.

Police in collaboration with the local residents have been searching for the bodies since.   ASP Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, says they have retrieved the second body and given it to the family for burial.    He further appealed to the parents to always be watchful of their children to avoid such a painful incident.

Nsubuga explains that a reference file SD 03/03/3/2021 has been opened up at Mannya police station for investigations.    He adds that they are planning a drowning prevention engagement with the affected community to protect children and adults from drowning in the river.
