The National Forestry Authority- and police destroyed hundreds of charcoal dealer’s camp in Paibona Sub County during an operation to wipe out the illicit business over the weekend.

Sanctioned by the Water and Environment Ministry, the operation was led by Xavier Sekanabo from the environmental police and National Forestry Authority (NFA) Range Manager for Aswa Jimmy Ouna.

The officers found thousands of logs of the endangered tree species like Africana Afzelia, Shea and Mahogany in the camp. The dealers come from as far as Central and Western parts of the country.

Eleven charcoal dealers were arrested during the operation and are locked up at Gulu Central Police Station.  URN brings you pictures of the illicit activities depicting the extent of the environmental destruction.
