An Ambulance belonging to Arua Regional referral hospital has gone missing from the hospital parking yard.

The hospital authorities realised that the Toyota Land Cruiser ambulance registration number UG 6812M was missing on Monday when Arua Resident City Commissioner, Martin Oroch requested for it to transport two injured URA enforcement officers for emergency treatment following a mob attack.

The latest theft adds to a February last year snatch of an Autoclave machine and assorted tool kits worth Shillings 500 million that had disappeared from Arua hospital were recovered from Nebbi district.  Eight Senior Staff at the hospital were arrested in connection to the disappearance of equipment and supplies from the hospital.

The lost ambulance was donated by the Health Ministry and is valued at Shillings 300milion to Arua Regional Referral Hospital last year. According to available information, the driver packed the ambulance in the hospital yard on Saturday and left the keys behind.

Dr. Gilbert Aniku, the Deputy Director Arua Regional Referral Hospital has confirmed the disappearance of the Ambulance but declined to divulge details.

Three Security Guards who were on duty at the hospital over the weekend are locked up at Arua Central Police Station in connection to the disappearance of the Ambulance.

Enoch Odong, the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department at Arua Central Police Station, says they have registered a case of theft to the hospital ambulance and arrest of the security guards.

Martin Oroch, the Arua Resident City Commissioner, says that they have instituted a search for the missing ambulance. He has appealed to the public to help security recover the ambulance.

Similarly, in 2017, the Assistant Procurement Officer and driver at Arua hospital were also arrested and detained in connection to the disappearance of another Autoclave machine at the hospital.  In 2008, two microscopes were discovered missing from the central laboratory.
