In 1999, Mwalimu Nyerere was reported to have been very sick. According to a security source in Dar Es Salaam, some of Nyerere’s successors were angry with his public criticism over corruption in government and they decided to leave him to suffer quietly in Dar Es Salaam.
Upon learning about Nyerere’s ill health according to a security source, President Yoweri Museveni arranged for a chartered plane that took his political father Nyerere to London, where he died of Leukemia in 1999.
This information is subject to verification but l was also once in Dar Es Salaam, when Nyerere criticized the Tanzanian Government over corruption and said that if one visits a government office, it stinks on the walls.
An unverified source said that it was after that development that President Yoweri Museveni became suspicious of political successors and considered doing away with term and age limits. The rest is history.
Likewise, speculation on the health of Kabaka has been rife until on Tuesday to mark his 66th birthday, when details came bear. A video that showed him coming out of the vehicle has gone viral on Social Media. Fortunately, the Royal Family has come out with a statement.
There is a lot of criticism of Katikkiro as a person and as an office by some subjects including opportunistic politicians calling Charles Peter Mayiga names.
However reliable reports indicate that the Kabaka, who had been on treatment in Kenya, and has improved steadily.
Then others wonder why he can’t be airlifted to the UK or USA in the West, Israel in the Middle East or India, Malaysia or the Kingdom of Thailand for further treatment.
Mutebi’s long reign in a shadow between 1969 and 1993 before the kingdom was restored and since 1993 ever since it was restored, has made him very popular. His popularity is at a level if not more of his father Sir Edward Muteesa ll (1939-1969), who is said to have become almost a cult after the first exile in 1953. His grandfather, Kabaka Daudi Chwa ll (1897-1939) was popular from the beginning to the end.
There is no doubt that President Yoweri Museveni, who paid a pivotal role in restoration of institutions of traditional leaders, whose Basiita (Abente clan), a lineage elder (omukulu w’omutuba) at Kisozi, Gomba, is one of the guardians of kingdoms in the Great Lakes Region and his mother coming from (Bashambo) one of the Mpororo royal families, is playing a quiet role to ensure that the Kabaka recovers. But since it has now gone to the public domain, the people expect President Museveni and Central Government to publicly team up with the Kingdom of Buganda to take drastic measures.
