Police in Kiira region are investigating a suspected ritual murder of seven-year-old, Abdullah Weyeye, a resident of Kagoma gate village in Kakira town council in Jinja district.

Weyeye was grazing cattle with five other children on Wednesday evening when an unidentified man showed up with a machete and chopped off his head before vanishing from the scene. One of the boys, who witnessed the incident, says that the assailants targeted Weyeye who was grazing cattle ahead of them.

“We were grazing the cows within the green belts of Kakira sugarcane plantation just like we do on a daily basis, but this time around, a man who seemed to have followed us for close to 30 minutes got hold of Weyeye in his neck area, chopped off his head before seeking refuge in the sugarcane plantation,” he said.

The deceased’s father, Lazalo Wabumba says that he was notified about the incident around 6:30 pm on Wednesday.  He says that they tried to search for the suspect in vain.

Amuza Wetaka, a resident of the area wants police to devise means of stepping up security in the communities neighboring Kakira sugarcane plantation, saying, criminals use the plantation to harm residents.

Abbey Ngako, the Kiira region police spokesperson, says that efforts to track the suspect are underway. “Preliminary investigations indicate that, it was an act of child sacrifice. Our teams have been deployed to track down the suspect, “he said
