The burning of the remaining part of the Rwenzururu royal palace four months ago was politically motivated, the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere (pictured above) has said.
He revealed this in a recorded radio program broadcast on Wednesday night by the Kasese based Messiah Radio.
In January this year unknown people torched the remnants of the Rwenzururu royal palace, which also doubled as Mumbere’s official residence and office. The burnt structure contained cultural items.
In his message, Mumbere said all the trouble that the kingdom has gone through in the past years is a result of preplanned moves orchestrated by elements that are against the kingdom and him as an individual.
He said those who burnt the palace positioned all the royal items together before setting them ablaze. Mumbere questioned how jerrycans of petrol were carried into the palace in the presence of security officers who have maintained presence since 2016.
“It’s obvious we are being accused of and what we are going through today, it was started by certain people and we were only set into their missions, they have now begun showing their faces, that house could not burn itself…” Mumbere said
Mumbere said he is aware that some people have been informing the government that Kasese is currently peaceful in his absence with intentions of blocking efforts for his return. He mentioned that he doesn’t recall a time when he ordered the royal guards to attack the government.
