A US billionaire couple of Bill and Melinda Gates are divorving, after 27 years of marriage, both posted on their Twitter accounts on Monday May 3.

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the statement says.

The couple said during their togetherness, they had three children but now, to provide each other privacy, they have to part ways.

They founded a charity organization the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000 which has since spent $53.8 billion on global health, poverty alleviation including in Uganda.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”

“We have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” their statement, well calculated to leave each other with dignity says.

Bill Gates, 65, owner of computer software manufacture- Microsoft is one of the richest people in the world with a net worth of $137 billion as of February 2021 as indicated in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranking.

Melinda Gates is aged 56 and started a relationship with his husband while she worked as a project manager at Microsoft, when Gates was CEO.
