Kampala. Police have said that groups of criminals are intending to declare certain kings and some opposition politicians “as dead” to incite the public during the swearing of President Museveni.

“Our cybercrime teams are monitoring and trolling social media for any acts of cyber harassment, misinformation and disinformation campaigns. We are also tracking down negative elements, rallying disgruntled supporters and fans, on social media and inviting them into disruptive behaviours,” a statement issued on Monday evening by Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said.

He warned that all perpetrators of violence that their criminal acts will definitely attract sanctions and consequences.

He said that security teams have so far arrested 41 suspects for inciting violence and holding unlawful assemblies in Kabalagala.

“They are set to appear in court.  Therefore, all persons who are hinged on promoting acts of violence are asked to desist from such ill-intentions, to avoid the full wrath of the law,” Enanga said.

He said that “we feel we are well prepared, but our security threat assessment remains active and continuous, and like we delivered a very successful election to all Ugandans and visitors to our country, we pledge to deliver a very peaceful and secure swearing-in ceremony for the President Elect.”

President-Elect, Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni will be swearing in on Wednesday May 12 for the sixth term in office at Kololo Independence grounds where at least 4,000 guests and 21 presidents are expected.

Enanga said that security has conducted massive drills on how to counter all forms of threats and vulnerabilities.

“These drills include how to counter armed attacks, massive demonstrations, aggressive and provocative behaviors against security personnel, acts of sabotage like blocking roads with logs, boulders and stones, burning tyres, deflating tyres, blocking VIP convoys and radical youth groups,” Enanga asserted.
