Zambia’s first president Kenneth Kaunda also a key figure in that nation’s independence struggle, has died at the age of 97, according to his family.
Kaunda was rushed to a hospital in the capital Lusaka on Monday after a pneumonia attack.
He leaves behind a legacy as a nationalist who in the then Northern Rhodesia, in the 1950d led independence movement from Britain.
He became Zambia’s president in 1964 when it attained independence.
