Kampala- Uganda/ Newsday: In a shift away from the June 14, asking the manufacturer of the covidex to cease sales, the National Drug Authority (NDA) has approved as supporting treatment it’s use for Covid-19 and other viral infections.
The National Drug Authority (NDA) executive director, Mr David Nahamya told journalists at the Uganda Media center Tuesday that various assessments including inspection of the factory where the herbal medicine is produced, informed the decision for it’s approval.
“NDA has granted COVIDEX an approval based on initial assessment, publications and safety studies conducted by the innovator,” Mr Nahamya said.
But Nahamya said that the medicine does not cure Covid-19 but it can supplement the medicine being used by medics to treat Covid-19 patients.
Covidex is made from Mbarara University by scientists led by Prof Patrick Ogwang.
