LUWERO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The Police in Luwero District have paraded Jamilu Ssekyondwa the first suspect to be arrested in the fake news about the alleged death of President Yoweri Museveni.
Ssekyondwa is a resident of Kabuyata village. He was arrested from Kamira Sub County in Luweero district on Friday.
Ssekyondwa is one of the people who shared the fake news that the President had died and the operation continues in the search for all those who shared the news.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the sixteen Ministers who had missed out recently, on Thursday at Kololo independence grounds, Museveni said that security must sort out the social media false news.
“Those who are in Uganda will be tracked and arrested and we shall denounce those who are in the diaspora, send them to hell,” Museveni said.
Luweero acting DPC Patrick Maikula, said that Ssekyondwa is under detaintion at the Luwero Police station for further investigation.
Mr. Maikula added that other members of the WhatsApp group were Ssekyondwa belongs are still at large.
Suspects will be charged for the offence of Cyber Harassment contrary to section 24(1), (2) (a) of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011.
