KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The estranged former leaders of the National defunct National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party (NURDP) have asked the Electro Commission to block the Bobi Wine led National Unity Party (NUP) from amending the party constitution.

In a letter through their lawyers of Mugabi Shyaka & CO. Advocates dated July 26, Mr. Nkonge Moses Kibalama and his son Ssimbwa Paul Kagombe claimed that the leaders of NUP were continuing to alter the constitution of the party in total breach of the Political Organizations’ Act.

NUP announced recently it had started the constitutional amendment activity to suit with the current times.

Mr. Kibalama also asked for an investigation into what they called forged audited reports for the years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020.

“Our clients strongly believe that the Copy of the Constitution that was duly submitted on the 29th December 2004 when NURDP was registered, was fraudulently and illegally tampered with by the defacto leadership (of NUP) for their personal gains,” the lawyers wrote.

“A different set of papers (was) switched with the original ones, save for the first and the last pages thus changing the entire spirit of the Party Constitution”, the lawyers wrote.

Kibalama also says that the audited books by Ms J.W and Partners Certified Public Accountants are believed to have been forged, that because the said Ms J.W and Partners Certified Public Accountants, the firm that purportedly authored the audited books of accounts is a non-existent entity and not known to the Institute of Accountants.

“Matanda, who happens to be an elder brother to one of the lawyers for the defacto group, is not a certified accountant or auditor. Your Lordship, in the event it is found that the impugned audited books of accounts are a forgery, we implore your good office to grant the Interim Leadership more time to rectify the anomaly and file proper Audited books of accounts for the years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020.

The secretary General of NUP, Lewis Rubongoya said that Kibalama was trying to stay relevant but he has no case to pursue.
