Mutinous special forces of Guinea Conary have said they have captured power and are planning a transitional government hours after gunfire rocked the precincts of the Presidential palace.
But the country’s defence ministry said that an attack by the renegade special forces had been repelled.
But a soldier donning Guinea’s national flag, guarded by eight other armed soldiers, said in a video that they planned to form a transitional government and would give further details later.
And videos shared on social media on Sunday purported to show President Alpha Conde being surrounded by soldiers and there were reports he had been arrested.
