KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The Democratic Party has criticised it’s former members for joining the newlly launched Dr Kiiza Besigye led People’s Front for Transition as if they are still in the DP.

The party warned the platform may collapse at infancy if it’s leaders opt to work with “disruptive and self seeking” individuals who are struggling for their political lives.

The DP spokesperson Okoler Opio Lo Amanu said that all the individuals who masqueraded as from DP were the same who championed the collapse of the
of an attempt at cooperation between People Power/NUP and DP.

A one Kalinge Nyago who is still in DP and former members including Sam Lubega Mukaaku, Sulaiman Kidandala, Kenneth Paul Kakande, Vincent Mayanja and Christine Ikiria joined the Besigye led People’s Front that was launched in Kampala on October 7, 2021.

“These self-seeking individuals whose trademark is indiscipline and opportunism once claimed that they had joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) as members of the DP Bloc. We warned NUP about them and their disruptive tendencies. Fortunately, NUP distanced itself from them and even denied them their party ticket in the last elections,” Amun said in a statement dated October 7.

All but Ikir had applied to be allowed tickets to contest for Parliament seats. Kakande had wanted.Nakawa but the ticket was given to NUP spokesperson and now MP Ssenyonyi.

Mukaku was denied ticket to contest for Lubaga south which was taken by Aloysius Mubiru. Kidandala was dropped by NUP in favour of Mohammad Ssegirinya who became Kawempe North MP.

Amun in his statement said the guys are at it again, “shamelessly masquerading as representatives of the DP Bloc”.

” We wish to warn the People’s Front against allowing these individuals to claim any association with the DP Bloc. That would be deceptive and fraudulent.”Amun said.

Amun said that “these politically stranded individuals are free to pursue efforts to resuscitate their failing political careers but DP will not allow them to do it at its expense”.

According to Besigye, the People’s Front for Transition is a platform for action. But the largest political party, NUP is not member in the pressure group. NUP is currently the biggest opposition party and enjoys massive support in Buganda and Busoga sub regions.

“We have talked enough. Three weeks from now, we will call people to action ,” Dr Kizza Besigye said on Friday morning during a talk show.

But DP says if People’s Front is honest in the pursuit of its stated objectives then it should take our every other stakeholders objections seriously in regard to the masquerading individuals.

The party said it’s former members are the kind of manipulative maneuvers that have undermined and continue to undermine the building of a viable coalition of democracy seeking forces that can create the leverage to bring about a democratic transition in Uganda.

“We expect that these individuals will be part of the People’s Front in their capacity but certainly not as DP Bloc. Claiming to have DP Bloc without DP is like claiming to have Christianity without Christ”DP says.

He said that the People’s Front must form principled alliances and focus beyond the political ambitions of individuals and that DP welcomes the new platform and remains committed to principled cooperation with any formation that is committed to building the post-Museveni Uganda.
