KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Two senior police officers have been taken into custody after a deadly blast in Kampala in which three people are believed to have died.

They (names withheld) include the officer in charge of operations at Kawempe Police Station and his counterpart the officer in charge of Kanyanya Police Post. They are accused of negligence and disobeying lawful orders in line with enforcement of curfew hours and allowing bars to operate.

“”Yes we have arrested two of our officers. We will provide other details at a later stage,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire told Newsday.

President Museveni said Sunday the blast that took place at Digida Pork Joint, a restaurant in Kwata zone could be connected to terrorists.

President Museveni said three “pigs” are believed to be behind the blast in which one person died and five others injured on Saturday night.

“It seems to be a terrorist act but we shall get the perpetrators,” Museveni said on Sunday morning via tweeter.

Museveni vowed “we shall defeat this criminality like we have defeated all the other criminality committed by the pigs who don’t respect life.”

Museveni said that he has been briefed that three people came and left a package in polythene bag (kaveera) which later on exploded, killing one person and injuring five others.

He said Police Specialists were scouring the scene and investigating the whole incident and would offer more information and guidelines on vigilance.
