Four people have now been charged with offensive communication in the wake of corruption allegations against deputy speaker Anita Among.
The latest of the group include city businessman Francis Bbutto and a journalist Moses Mugalula both of whom have been sent to Kitalya until November 17 2021.
On Thursday another journalist with the drone website, Kareire Pidson and NUP activist Moses Bigirwa were remanded to Kitalya.
“Bigirwa Moses’ accomplice Matovu Butto and Mugulula Moses charged to Buganda Road Court with Offensive communication in an ammended charge,”the CID’s spokesperson Charles.Twiine announced on twitter on Friday evening.
On Thursday while Bigirwa and Kareire while appearing before Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu was charged with 3 counts of offensive communication, Libel and demanding money with menace.
The prosecution alleges that in the month of November 2021 in Kampala district, Moses Bigirwa, Pidson Kareire and others still at large willfully and repeatedly used electronic communication on Whatsapp to post content offensive in nature against the Deputy Speaker.
It also alleged that in the same month Bigirwa tried to solicit a big sum of money from the deputy speaker.
The duo denied all the charges.
Bigirwa’s lawyer Abdallah Kiwanuka raised a concern that his client was tortured and that he needed quick medical attention something that was challenged by the Prosecution.
