KAMPALA-UGANDA/Newsday: Award winning satirical novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has been freed from illegal detention after his kidnap from Kitalya prison on Tuesday.

Kakwenza was driven to his home on Wednesday. He had in a court appearance via zooom claimed torture, that his body bears 63 scars of torture.
Men believed to be from the military forcefully removed him from Kitalya and took him away moments after being granted bail by Buganda Road Magistrate’s court.

Deputy Lod Mayor Doreen Nyanjura broke the news Kakwenza was whisked off to an unknown destination by men driving in a black tinted double cabin vehicle.

Military sources said on Wednesday that after his kidnap, Kakwenza was taken to the home of a top military general who asked for forceful support.

“The general has a wider national ambition and he sees Kakwenza as a blockade. The two met and and strick orders were given to Kakwenza. The author seems to have bowed and that’s why he was released” a military source said.

On Tuesday one of his lawyers, Samuel Wanda told the media that they had managed to deposit Kakwenza’s passport in court as demanded earlier today by Buganda road magistrate, Douglas Singiza. Wanda said Kakwenza was picked by security men from the quarter guard inside Kitalya prison.
