WAKISO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Three immigration officers have been arrested at Entebbe International Airport on reported abuse of office after they allegedly led to refugee travelers to miss a flight on claims they had forged clearance documents from the Office of the Prime Minister.
The operation was conducted by the Brig. Henry Isoke State House Anti corruption Unit- SH-ACU.
“The operation at Entebbe airport followed a whistleblower’s complaint that led to the arrest of Immigration officers,” SH-ACU said in a statement sent to Newsday.
The suspects include Caroline Kabugo a shift Supervisor, Martha Mboneko an Immigration officer and Julius Musalwa also an Immigration officer.
The three allegedly abused their power when they caused a refugee and her two children to miss their flight purporting that she had forged clearance documents from the office of the Prime Minister to the contrary.
“The traveler has since incurred extra costs in excess of $1800 for purchase of fresh tickets and caused distress to the family. This attracts disrepute not only to the government, but also the immigration department,” the statement says.
The officers also allegedly tampered with the luggage of the travelers.
