Pr Ssenyonga’s chief guard refuses to take oath in Court
KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY:
Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga’s chief guard, Israel Wasswa refused to take oath as he gave his defence in the case of aggrevated robbery him and three others is being charged with.
During a Monday session presided over by criminal division high court judge, Isaac Muwata in Kampala, Mr. Wasswa preferred not to take oath.
This there fore meant that he could not be questioned by prosecution or directed for legal success by his own counsel.
He however told court that he didn’t participate in the robbery as he was guarding his boss, Pr Ssenyonga at the time of the crime- that he only over heard what happened on the night of June 8, 2018 the following day.
He added that the complainant is simply hating him and said he was arrested in error.
Before Wasswa’s pleas another suspect Mwanda Keefa Godfrey
another guard at Ssenyonga’s church said that whereas he knew that Sam Mukula was assulted and robbed at church, he him self was guarding from a different point so he didn’t participate in restraining or assaulting Mukula whom he said had drunk some liquor that evening.
The four are being accused of agraveted robbery. Four witnesses Including a woman police officer of varsit experience testified to court that Wasswa and three others, another guard at the church , an usher and a chapati maker participated in assaulting Mr Sam Mukula before robbing him of his watch , a phone cell,. a national ID and cash totalling Ugsh 500,000/ in June 2018.
The said Wasswa is the pastor’s chief guard and prosecution maintains he actively got involved in the offence of assaulting, robbing and lifting the victim and throwing the victim over the church fence to which the victim almost died.
Initially prosecution alleged that the case was committed by Wasswa and three others , Ojulongo Ali alias Peter a guard , Al Wanyama Santana Ivan an ursher and Mwanda Godfrey alias Kefa a chapati maker at the church.
The second witness after the victim, Mr Oligo Micheal a medical officer took court through how they tried saving Mukula’s damaged organs from Kaleerwe medical clinic until he was transferred to Mulago national referral hospital.
The third witness and a friend of the victim Mr Alex Tusiime described the whole thing as being bloody and regretable to people who claim to be close to a pastor.
The officer also described details of the Uganda shillings 500,000/ stollen from victim saying one hundred was in five thousand paper notes while the balance was in fifity paper notes according to Mukula’s employer who paid him that evenning.
