ENTEBE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The formerly warring Muslim factions have declared a constitutional review after meeting with President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday.
“We signed a document agreeing to unite. We are now all together as the Uganda Muslim community,” Mubajje said in comments after meeting President Museveni adding they are planning a Constitutional review and a general assembly that will lead to elections of new leaders.
However the absence of the major Kibuli faction means no deal was reached.
President Museveni said that his party strives for unity and thus this is why formerly warring Muslim factions were all represented.
They included Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya, Sheikh Muhammed Yunusu Kamoga, Sheikh Muhamood Kibaate, Sheikh Kasule Ndirangwa and Sheikh Hamid Umar Kateregga.
Among others were Hajj Ramanthan Mugalu, Hajj Faruk Kamulegeya and Masaba Muhamood.
Museveni said he had to ensure the Muslims reconciled because they played a role while he fought Idd Amin.
“The eight years I spent fighting Amin, I was actually helped by Muslims like Abbas Kibazo of Kibuli, Zubair Bakali, among others. So uniting with all groups including Muslims helped us win because unity is power,” Museveni said.
