KATUNA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY; President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in Rwanda by road to attend the ongoing Commonwealth Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting- CHOGM
He arrived and crossed the Gatuna One-Stop Border Post into Rwanda on Thursday afternoon and was welcomed by oficials from Rwanda. He arrived at Gatuna by helicopter that delivered him from Entebe military air base.
Uganda hosted the CHOGM in 2007. Leaders of CHOGM are hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. Since 1971, a total of 24 meetings have been held, with the most recent being in the UK in 2018.
The ongoing meeting was delayed due to covid19. Meetings in Rwanda started on June 20 and ends June 25.
The official opening of CHOGM takes place on Friday 24 June and is followed by the main high-level meetings of Heads on Friday 24 to Saturday 25 June. They are proceeded by four Forums, ministerial meetings, side events and other activities.
Several world leaders arrived in Rwanda on Thursday with UK Prime Minister among those.
A total of 54 independent countries make up the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific
