LYANTONDE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The strength of a political party lies in its coercive power aiming at dominance which is attributed to the level at which it meets the demands of both party members and nonmembers.
In the aftermath of any revolution, the prioritised assumption is that revolutionaries share the spoils though putting in mind what the future may hold given the challenges faced by regimes. These challenges are indiscriminate, hence cut across.
Most political parties, (NRM inclusive), lack internal democracy, and are uncertain of freedom from dynastic takeover, while others are soaked in financial woes with no eminent and meaningful remedy.
Among the inevitable are revolutions within such parties timed at party leaders’ failure to resolve the piercing concerns of party members.
Apparently, there is discontent within the NRM party leaders regarding government appointments. Though President Museveni may still be immersed in delusions of competitive politics, and thus appoint opposition’s Nobert Mao for such an influential office, it’s of a very minute advantage to the NRM members who perceive themselves also as fitting.
In many of such consequential decisions made by the party chairman, opposition figures are appointed in big offices despite an expansive electorate within the NRM including the youth and professionals.
The implications of this are in terms a wavering support and dedication to the party with immeasurable mistrust and antagonism.
These internal party shortcomings limit NRM’s growth as members are deprived of the big cake in favour of the opposition. No wonder party prospects are now based on ‘give and take’, and also the party’s structures are resuscitated only during general elections.
This essentially means that the party only functions on patchy basis for most of the time.
With such woes, there is no doubt that disgruntled NRM youth/members have embarked on the revolutionary process within their party to secure back the focus that seems to be gone.
