Speaker Among has said Gen. Elly Tumwine exhibited the highest level of patriotism, commitment, and dedication in the execution of his duties in her eulogy.

The Speaker called on Ugandans to practice patriotism as a means of achieving national unity.

Among made the call as she mourned the late. Hon. Gen. Elly Tumwine, who passed on at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

“Hon. Gen. Tumwine did not only exhibit the highest level of patriotism, commitment, and dedication in the execution of his duties as a representative of the UPDF in Parliament, but he was also immensely resourceful to the institution of Parliament”, Among said.

She described Gen. Tumwine as a passionate hard worker, who regularly attended, participated and made meaningful contribution during plenary sessions, despite his busy Ministerial responsibilities.

“ We demonstrate our love for and of our country by working together as one. We are all not perfect, but what can make us move forward is if we set aside our differences and forgive each other”, Among said.

She extended her condolences to the family, encouraging the widow to always reach out but above all to find strength in the Lord as in psalms 46:1-2, “God is our place of safety and strength, a very present and well proved help in trouble”

President Museveni

President Museveni on Monday said, “those insulting Gen Elly Tumwine were wasting time” as he eulogised the serviceman whose August 25 death has been marred by divisive rhetoric across mainstream and social media.

Tumwiine was 68.

One of his daughters  described him as “unapologetically himself”. He , succumbed to lung cancer in Nairobi.

He will be buried today.
