SHACU Investigating Corruption Allegations in the Districts of Soroti, Kumi and Kalaki

SOROTI-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit working together with Police is conducting investigations into corruption related allegations in the districts of Soroti, Kumi and Kalaki.

The allegations in Soroti District relate to embezzlement of funds meant for the construction of a piped water project worth Ugx 390m at Adamasko, inflation of the District Payroll where ghost workers and pensioners have allegedly been paid over UGX500M. The arrested officials are; Okanya Simon the Principal Human Resource Officer, Okello Micheal an Internal Auditor and Oonyu Charles, the Human Resource Officer. It is also alleged that the said officials have been frustrating pensioners and public servants who were claiming their payments.

In addition, the Principal Human Resource Officer , Okanya has been charged in Court for obtaining Ugx 20M from a 66 year old man, Okurut Samuel under the guise that he had been over paid gratuity by the Ministry of Finance whereas not.

The Unit together with Police is also investigating alleged embezzlement of Ugx 350M by Kalaki district officials which resulted into the shoddy construction of a road and bridge that connects Kalaki to Alebtong, the road is now closed because the bridge collapsed.

In Kumi, The Police and the Unit are investigating alleged mismanagement of about Ugx 300m PDM funds. It is alleged that the district officials embezzled the funds and submitted false accountabilities indicating they can conducted sensitization, mobilizing and monitoring of PDM projects where as not.
