DUBAI:The National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka zBobi Wine said in Saturday he had been detained in Dubai and questioned for 8 hours about the intentions and leadership of his party.
Kyagulanyi travelled to the United Arab Emirate for a charity concert to assist stranded Ugandan immigrant workers return home. At least 10.000 Ugandans are estimated to live in the UAE, remitting $200m (Shs770b) annually.
Kyagulanyi said officials in Dubai asked him about his family members and their contacts.
“Landed in Dubai at 8:30pm. Now 5am. I’ve been held and interrogated for 8hrs. They asked me about NUP, its leaders, their phone numbers, my family members & their contacts! I have all necessary travel docs. They’ve confiscated my passport & my phone. Am literary under arrest,” Bobi Wine tweeted at around 4:9am.
A fortnight ago, Chapa Karuhanga, a founding member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was on September 29 detained by immigration officers in Dar es Salam, Tanzania over unclear cases.
