KAPEEKA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has been killed in a Saturday night attack in Kapeeka,escalating fears of a forming rebel group in the country

Saturdays attack is the latest in series of attacks in which soldiers and policemen are the target.

“It was around 2245hrs  unknown people armed with a gun attacked security personnel who had a joint patrol of both the police,” a police statement said.

The team were patrolling at Kapeka play ground where there was a music show.

” The assailants shot at the patrollers and killed one UPDF personnel”, a police statement said on Sunday.

The dead soldier has been named as  Pvt Tufeyo Obed aged 25. He was attached to Namunkekela army detach.

Police said the victims  retaliated by shooting the assailants and killed two of them. One fun was recovered.

The assailants are not yet identified. The scene of crime has been cordoned off and visited by top security personnel in the region.

But on Monday November 14,  police said “intelligence mobilization was yielding and is to ensure a state of high alertness.”

“We have identified the saboteur groups and are closing in on them. We want to make it very expensive and costly to attack any security installation and the general public,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime said.
