WAKISO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Iron handed headteacher of St. Mary’ College Kisubi (SMACK) Brother Deo Aliganyira has been retired with some sources indicating it was a result of his nude photos that circulated in March while some say it was his old age.
Sources at SMACK indicated Bro. Aliganyira who has headed the school from 2017 with an iron fist that allegedly saw many staff members purged had schemed for Brother Augustine Mugabo to succeed him but Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere botched the deal.
Unconfirmed sources said that Brother Aliganyira had lobbied for Mugabo through the Ministry of Sports and Education consequently leading to a one Ronald Kiberu Ssekabembe on behalf of the Permanent Secretary appointing Mugabo on December 12.
But the appointment was done without the knowledge of the founding body, the catholic Church. On learning abut the developments Archbishop Ssemogerere wrote a protest letter to the Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni rejecting the new head teacher.
In his letter dated December 15, Ssemogerere noted that his team had already started the process of appointing Aliganyira’s successor in March, the month in which nude photos of the outgoing headteacher went viral.
The Archbishop said the church had already proposed individuals as candidates to inherit Aliganyira and the names had been sent to the Archdiocese of Kampala Education’s Office.
Ssemogerere while rejecting Bro. Mugabo who is headteacher at St. Henry’s Kitovu, said his services were still critical where he is.
“We recommend that Bro. Mpanga who is the substantial deputy headteacher and has served in that position for six years be appointed new head,” Ssemogerere’s letter stated.
