Nakasongola police on the spot for releasing murder suspects

NAKASONGOLA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The family members and friends of slain Vincent Kato 27, who was brutality murdered from pastor Jackson Ssenyonga’s alleged farm in Kyandyanga, Kakooge sub county in Nakasongola district have protested the way police in Nakasongola released his alleged killers on police bond.

According to Joan Nantongo the widow and John Wasswa the twin brother to the late, all the people who had been arrested following the murder of Kato are now moving freely in Kyandyanga.

” We can’t understand how police chose to release these people. They must have stood before courts of law otherwise my husband was murdered in cold blood and I request president Yoweri Museveni and prime minister Nabbanja Musaferi to intervene. I was left help less with two young boys, not even pastor Jackson Ssenyonga on whose premises my husband was killed by his staff has been of any help” said Nantongo when press caught up with her deep in Makaseke plywood factory were she seeks work to feed the youngsters.

However the Nakasongola DPC, Brian’s Ampaire told press Monday evening that, ‘ Yes the suspects have been released on bond following technical advise from court” He however said that much information could be got from the Savannah region police spokesman, Mr Patrick Lule.

On his part Lule said that the case was going on but suspects had been given police bond.

A family friend has however helped the deseased family with services of a private lawyer to help them seek justice.
According to a letter written by Kakeeto and co Advocates on behalf of the Nantongo, Wasswa and Robert Ssejjemba an uncle to the fallen Kato and addressed to the Director of CIID , Uganda police dated March 2, 2023, the family has asked the director to intervene in this saga.

The same letter was copied to State House Anti Corruption unit, headed by Brig Gen Henry Isoke, the IGP Ochola Okoth, the Savannah region RPC , the DPP and other stake holders.

This follows un clear circumstances under which Kato a bodaboda cyclist at Katuugo town council in Nakasongola district was murdered on the night of February 12,2023.

Kato a former casual worker at Ssenyonga’s alleged farm had left unpaid of his arrears and when he got a passenger heading that side on the fateful night he decided to reach the farm and demands for his money according to his wife and friends.

He was however roughed up, put under ropes and knifed in the neck and head.
Nakasongola police officer picked his body and motorbike the following day and was burried in Kiwoko, Luweero.

Initially the family accused Ssenyonga for taking their fallen Kato for granted saying on hearing the death news, the pastor allegedly sent his helper pastor Ssozi who wanted to offer them 200,000 to silence them which they rejected.

Efforts to get a fair comment from pastor Jackson Ssenyonga were still fruit less as his usual cell was going unanswered.
