KAMPALA- UGANDA/NEWSDAY: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has injected shs20m into the Bika bya Buganda football tournament in yet a fresh signal of renewed working relations.

The President’s contribution was delivered to the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga by the coordinator of the Office of the National Chairman of the NRM Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye on Thursday morning at the Kingdom headquarters,  Bulange, Mengo.

“Like I promised on Tuesday, I am here to deliver President Yoweri Museveni’s contribution of shs20m to support the tournament,” Namyalo said while handing over the money.

This is the second contribution from President Museveni the latest being financial support towards Kabaka’s run that took place last month. Relations between Mr Mayiga and the first family are good. First son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba last month offered Shs20m for the Kabaka’s run kits.

Namyalo said that  Mr Museveni who is the national chairman decided to be part of the Bika bya Buganda because this brings togetherness to “all of us despite the fact that we come from different political backgrounds.”

Namyalo also reminded Me. Mayiga that President Museveni wishes well his “Ente” clan.In 1993, the Lukiiko crowned Mr. Museveni as one of the top officials in the Ente clan.

“The President wishes his clan to the tournament. The president said he wishes them well,”  Namyalo said

Thursday’s visit was Namyalo’s second visit to Bulange in a week, the first one on Tuesday when she attended the launch of the tournament. She made a personal contribution of shs5m.

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga saluted the President for the contribution, urging members of the NRM and other political parties to come and be part of the tournament.

“I thank the president for supporting the tournament. We strongly believe that the clans can be an anchor of unity. But when you support the Bika, you put that belief into practice,” the Katikkiro said.

He encouraged the NRM supporters from all corners of the Kingdom to support their clans, especially now during this tournament.

” Come out, it’s okay to support the political color of your choice,”Mayiga said.

The Bika Cup is a football tournament that brings together Buganda Kingdom clans in competition.

Namyalo presented the gave the Katikkiro with a statue of the blessed virgin Mary as a gift to mark his 10 years at the helm as premier.
