Kato Lubwama joked about death a few hours before he died

He died from Sterna medical centre at Kitebi in Lubaga Division.

KAMPALA- UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Uganda has woken up to the sad news of the death of top comedian and former Member of Parliament for Lubaga South Paul Kato Lubwama.

Details of the cause of his death remain scanty as the brief announcement came from the administrator of his Twitter handle.

“Bitalo. Hon Kato Lubwama Paul Afudde! (Sad! Hon Kato Lubwama Paul is dead),” the Admin posted.

James, one of his friends, told this website that, “Between 5pm and 7pm of Tuesday he (Lubwama) was at a Pork joint called Ewooma at Lubaga Road.”

He sat chatting with three friends. Some took sodas while he took a beer. He ordered for a plate of eats,” James said.

“As I went to the washrooms he just grabbed my hand and in his typical joking manner he told me, ‘Gwe James nali manyi wafa dda (thought u were long dead).”

James added: “I told him I was still alive and he joked again, ‘ofa ddi ( when are you dying)?'”

“We had a very brief chat about my work and he thanked me for the good work I was doing,” James who was shocked by the early morning sad news said.

Kato Lubwama has previously suffered from multiple illnesses including hypertension, redundant sigmoid colon among others.

He served as Lubaga South MP between 2011 and 2016. He worked with the CBS and has been an artiste.

He died from Sterna medical centre at Kitebi in Lubaga Division.

His friend Abbey Mukiibi said he will be buried at Nkozi
