LUWERO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Church of Uganda on Saturday invited security agencies to offer security during an abdication event tomorrow amid fears of disruption by defiant supporters of nullified Bishop elect, Canon Godfrey Kasana.

The Provincial Secretary Can William Ogeng in a letter to the outgoing Luwero Bishop, Eridad Nsubuga dated July 7, asserted that abdication will go on but cautioned there was an anticipated chaos.

“Aware of the situation that is on ground and to avoid unexpected circumstances presumed by some Christians who are not agreeing with the decision by the House of Bishops, we ask you to inform the RDC to take firm step to ensure that security of the Christians is guaranteed on Sunday,” Canon Ogeng wrote in his letter.

He also interested the Regional Police Commander of Savannah Region and DPC of Luwero to provide back up security.

There is uncontrollable anger amongs the supporters of Kasana who think that his nullification as the fourth Bishop of Luwero Diocese was shrouded by corruption and politics.

Can Kasana’s supporters remain defiant and on Friday, they staged a protest service to “bless” their perceived bishop elect- and they later on poured onto the streets of Luwero Town chanting songs in support of him. Some were heard yelling in Luganda “oba akwaana akwaane” he is the man we love.”

The House of Bishops ordered fresh nominations for Luwero Diocese and this is due on August 1. Kasana was nullified on June 29, in a meeting of House of Bishops at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima.

The current bishop Eridad Nsubuga will leave office tomorrow after he clocks 65 years of age. His successor will be consecrated on August 6 at St. Mark’s cathedral Luwero.

Canon Kasana was cancelled as Bishop -elect on allegations of infidelity that led to siring of two children outside his wedlock- a deviation from Church values.

It is alleged that Kasana had a sex affair with Milly Nakyomu. The House of Bishops extracted his conversations and Nakyomu in which SMS and Mobile Money exchanges are visible.

During the Kasana and Nakyomu’s communication between February 2023, the duo has chatted for 102 minutes between 54 exchanges, they carefully adopted coded names for themselves to disguise their identities.

Can Kasana and Sikyomu went by the code name “Boss” and the latter was called “Manager.” They referred to their two children as “workers”. We have learnt that their two children are Emmanuel and Edison. We will not give the surnames because the children are juveniles.
