KAMPALA-UGANDA/ NEWSDAY: A war is over land between tycoon Hamis Kigundu and veterans over Wakaliga KCCA land has left many injured as the city tycoon attempted to takeover the land.
Security had detected the fight and the military as well as regular police had been deployed at Wakaliga at a land the veterans grabbed from KCCA in 2007.
The land was forcefully taken over by army veterans in 2006 who immediately parcelled it into small plots that they sold while they also retained a land where sits a community market.
At the time of grabbing, the late Ssebana Kizito was Kampala city Mayor. He survived lynching by the retired army men when he went to inspect his institution’s land that was then a garbage collection centre.
Ssebana was in company of his deputy Dr. Hasibu Takuba Kabuye, city secretaries Winnie Makumbi, Francis Lubowa, Francis Rwego and Amis Bireke.
