KAMPALA- UGANDA/NEWSDAY:The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has said that MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda is one of Uganda’s top beneficiaries of President Yoweri Museveni’s cash.

“Ssemujju is the biggest beneficiary of government money. As Chief Whip, he was given sh200m. Erias Lukwago is a [Salim] Saleh project. Ask yourself why he didn’t go to court when the cheats leaked. He’s known for suing over the smallest things. Why didn’t he sue Saleh?” Mafabi charged during a Press conference at Najjananjumbi on Wednesday.

Mafabi’s latest accusations have escalated the war of words in the FDC where Ssemujju accuses Mafabi and party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi of vending the party to Museveni who during presidential campaigns in Hoima vowed to crush out the opposition by 2026.

“Ssemujju preaches water and drinks wine. He accuses Museveni of nepotism. But as Chief Whip at Parliament, he employed his own relatives. The founding father (Besigye) returned the so-called evil money we took from Museveni in bits. Why didn’t he return it at once?” Mafabi alleged.

He called himself a tycoon who for service of his nation dropped a world bank job earning him $20,000 (about sh75m) monthly to join politics.

“I am a rich successful businessman,” Mafabi said.

At Katonga Road, Rtd Col Kiiza Besigye, the former FDC boss, accused Museveni of funding the opposition, FDC inclusive, to legitimize himself and that is all part of the state capture plan.

Besigye said that the issue of Museveni’s cash was first raised in 2021 and that Museveni funded Amuriat.

Both Ssemujju and Lukwago are yet to comment but Besigye said that he will come out on the matter after a probe report into Museveni’s money is outed later this month.

Amuriat said that many people who declined to be named supported the campaign including Museveni’s Minister Joyce Ssebugwawo and a couple of business people.
