KAMPALA: The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) on Monday rescued 15 women and girls from the hands of Allied Democratic Forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Operation Shuuja Commander Gen Dick Olum said one girl died in the fire exchange between the rebels and the UPDF.

“In a decisive night operation on Monday night, the UPDF 1st Battalion in Mwalika Valley successfully executed an offensive, resulting in the rescue of 15 girls abducted by an ADF splinter group led by Abua Kasi,” the army said in a statement.
