KIRUHURA: Kashongi County MP Herbert Musasizi Tayebwa has been accused of hoodwinking voters with a hired ambulance in a bid to win votes in 2021.

Details from the constituency in Kiruhura district indicate that Tayebwa’s ambulance was visible for less than six months after the elections before it disappeared mysteriously.

Tayebwa won the 2021 polls with 7,790 votes against contender Genensio Tumuramye who polled 7,500 votes.

Tumuramye was later to go to court protesting the results after accusing Tayebwa of stealing the votes. However, court upheld the elections.

But the voters are very angry with their legislator after accusing him of taking them for a ride.

“He claimed the ambulance broke down but we saw the owners coming to pick it. It seems he had hired it and the fees were becoming too huge for him to pay,” one voter told this website.

Tayebwa could not be reached for comment but reports on the ground indicate that Tumuramye is currently undertaking various development projects in a bid to unseat the incumbent in the next general elections.
