His Highness William Gabula Nadiope, the Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), hosted Muslim leaders led by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda to an Iftar dinner at his Igenge Palace on Saturday evening. Other notable attendees included Hon. Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the National Chairperson of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council- UMSC, Hon. Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the UMSC Secretary General; Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Bbowa, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti in charge of Busoga; and District Kadhis, among others. Among the high-profile personalities present were Rt Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister/Minister in charge of East African Affairs; H.E Mehmet Faith AK, the Turkish Ambassador to Uganda; the Katukiro- Prime minister of Busoga Kingdom, Dr Joseph Muvawala, Mr. Omer Aykon, the Country Representative of TIKA to Uganda; and Honorable Members of the Ugandan Parliament, Local Government District Leaders, among others.
In his address, Mufti Mubaje paid tribute to the Kyabazinga for his role as a unifier of all people, particularly his special compassion towards Muslims, exemplified by his heartfelt gesture of organizing an Iftar dinner to mark the Holy Month of Ramadan. He also expressed gratitude to the Turkish government and Turkish-based charities for their various social transformation programs in Uganda, including offering scholarships to Ugandan students, construction of schools and mosques, installation of boreholes for safe water provision to communities, donations of equipment to Radio Bilal, and the distribution of Kurban (cattle) nationwide during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, coinciding with the pilgrimage to the Holy City of Makkah.
The Kyabazinga and Hon. Kadaga also expressed their appreciation to the Turkish government and Turkish-based charities for their numerous developmental projects in Busoga. The colorful event concluded with the presentation of gifts from the Mufti to the Kyabazinga and Hon. Kadaga, reciprocated by gifts from them to Mufti Mubaje.
