KAMPALA
WITH the Uganda government investigating it’s recalled Ambassador Henry Mayega, the Consul General to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other consulate officials , a section of the staunch UPC members are laughing between fingers.
Mayega and team are being investigated
amidst allegations of privately procured gambling machines being operated at the Uganda Consulate building in Dubai.
An old man we found at Uganda House along Kampala road the former strong seat of the UPC said ‘they wished disaster for Mr Henry Charles Mayega’ because of his abandoning them when he joined NRM.
” He was our own in UPC but stunned us and our dead leader Obote when he left with a few others. ” ,said a smiling old man who said he is John Okello.
Mayega a former top leader of UPC party crossed over to NRM in September 2010 during a function to launch the NRM manifesto 2011 at Kampala Serena hotel.
The function attended by president Yoweri Museveni saw other UPC big fish like Hajj James Weggulo and Osinde Wangwor join NRM.
Mayega came along with about 40 purported UPC chairmen from Buganda.
Years later after serving his NRM new party, Mayega was gifted with the Ambassador portfolio from which he is now facing investigations.

was recently recalled to pave way for investigations.
According to the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Okello Oryem, the recall is pending the outcome of the probe, which is being conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
The ambassador and other officials are being investigated following reports that gambling machines, shipped under diplomatic cover between Russia and the Middle East, ended up being operated at the consulate building.
The machines were allegedly procured privately and not authorized by the Ugandan government.

Mayega’s woes came at a time when another Ambassador Joy Ruth Acheng, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Canada had just been banished from her work station .
Acheng was ordered to leave Canada by August 21, 2024, due to her alleged involvement in many unresolved issues according to State Minister Oryem.
