THE Uganda police department working with the State House Anti Corruption Unit and office of the DPP have charged senior officials in Jinja for abuse of office.

The two officials were charged Wednesday, August 21, 2024
before the Anti- Corruption Court .

Those charged were Mulopa Haruna the Education Officer ,Ngobi Samuel who is the Assistant Sports Officer while their counterpart, Mutesi Amina the Principal Education Officer is currently on the run .

It’s alleged that they abused their authority by ordering the diversion of UPE capitation grants to other activities in the city.

The duo irregularly ordered Head Teachers of several government aided schools in Jinja City to make contributions from the UPE capitation grants to City Council activities and Sports workshops, which contravenes with the UPE Guidelines and Regulations for handling public funds.

They were remanded until 28/08/2024.
