MAKERERE
President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former minister and political cammissar, Dr Crispus Kiyonga as the Chancellor Makerere University.
Kiyonga comes to replace former finance minister Dr Ezra Suruma who is finishing his term of office at Makerere University.
Dr Suruma was appointment Makerere University Chancellor around 2015.
The term of office for Chancellorship is four years but can be renewed for another term.
The post of chancellor is titular only to confer degrees and other ceremonies .
Initially the sitting president was the Chancellor of Makerere but this was changed given the busy schedule of the president.
Makerere is run n by the vice chancellor now Prof Barnabas Nawangwe.
Kiyonga’s appointment comes at a time when a section of Makerere dons are complaining about some of the vice chancellor’s management moves like that which are related to Dr Umar Kakumba being moved from the office of the Academic Registrar.
