CHRISTIANS CEREBRATE CHRISMAS AS BISHOP ZZIWA CONDEMNS SELECTIVE BRUTALITY IN CAMPAIGNS

A group of Muslim entertainers, commonly known as Khalifas, who perform melodious chants glorifying Allah and praising the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), paid a courtesy visit to His Eminence, Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda. The visit took place on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at the UMSC headquarters in Kampala. These entertainers, under the association Ittihadul Maadihiina Warusuulihi, base their performances on the Barizanj, a renowned work by the legendary Imam Buswir. The delegation was led by Sheikh Muhammad Yiga, the Association Chairman and former District Kadhi of Kampala. During their visit, they expressed their unwavering allegiance to Mufti Mubaje, especially in the wake of last year’s unrest, caused by a few misguided individuals spreading false claims. The Khalifas praised Mufti Mubaje for his leadership and the visible developments at UMSC. They also requested support from the Mufti, including office space for their association and assistance in securing Haj offers for their members.
In response, Mufti Mubaje warmly welcomed the group and reflected on the blessings Allah has granted his administration since 2000, despite numerous challenges.
He said, “I pray day and night to Allah. If I stray from the righteous path, then there is no need for me to remain in office. But as long as I stay steadfast, I leave everything in His divine protection. These prayers have brought me divine favor through difficult times.”
The Mufti urged the Khalifas to preserve the traditions of their performances in line with Islamic values. He discouraged them from incorporating worldly elements, such as being hired to sing praises for politicians.
Mufti Mubaje also encouraged them to formally register their association and promised to provide support, including Haj offers for those who have not been to Makkah. He tasked the Secretaries of Religious Affairs and Dawah to assist in securing office space for the association.
Additionally, the Mufti asked the Khalifas to collaborate with the departments responsible for organizing the Annual Mawlid Ceremony, which celebrates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This year’s event is scheduled for September 15th, 2024.
Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Muhammad Murshid Luwemba, Secretary for Dawah-Islamic Propagation, and Sheikh Hamid Serwadda Busungu Regional Assistant to the Mufti incharge of of Kampala were also present at the meeting.
Before departing, the Khalifas gifted the Mufti a goat and a bunch of green bananas.
