SECURITY is investigating circumstances under which suspected Karamoja warriors returned to avenge the killing of their own.

The unfortunate incident happened Monday night when Lokainon Mauro Lotyang, the 39-year-old LC3 Chairman of Kotido Sub-county, was brutally assassinated at Sunrise Bar in Lokomebu, Kotido District.

According to eyewitnesses said the killers caught Lotyang watching football.

They suddenly, stormed in armed with guns and opened fire killing him instantly.

“Lotyang tried to run, but it was too late. Eight bullets pierced his body, leaving him lifeless,” said an eyewitness.

Preliminary reports indicate that Lotyang suffered eight gunshot wounds, including four bullets to the back, one to the left arm, one to the left shoulder, one to the left nose, and one fatal bullet that exited through his brain.

The assassination is believed to be a revenge act by associates of Apalingayang Apaloma, the suspected warrior killed by UPDF soldiers on September 13 according to Media reports.

Residents of Kotido are reeling in shock, mourning the loss of their leader.

“This is a dark day for our community. We’ve lost a dedicated leader,” said a resident.

The Ugandan government has condemned the attack, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The attack comes amidst heightened tensions in the region following the killing of Lokwi Apalingayang Apaloma. The Ugandan government has intensified disarmament efforts in the area.
