  1. MP Abed Bwanika Warns NUP Top Leadership Of impending Arrests

By A. Lubowa

KAMPALA

“It’s just going to be a matter of time when state is going to start arresting top players at NUP following confessions of the released NUP supporters ” said Dr Bwanika on CBS.

The Masaka_ Kabonera MP, Dr Abed Bwanika has said that NUP top Leadership should prepare for their worst because they neglected his advice of negotiating with the State to release the NUP supporters who finally got tired any negated NUP.

He said a pending arrest is hovering over NUP top bosses heads following the confessions of their members since the said members must have been acting on orders of the NUP bosses by legal interpretation.

It follows the release of a number of former NUP supporters after their confessions and asking for presidential pardon. Most of them were arrested in Kalangala towards last elections.

Bwanika said NUP leadership is naive of politics that when he (Dr Bwanika) among others advised NUP boss Hon Robert Kyaggulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and his team to find a political solution to NUP members who were rotting in jail they never found any sense in his advice.

” Now am very happy because these people in NUP are now going to start harvesting. They are going to be arrested most likely . I can tell you. Those who confessed to subversive activities to secure their freedom are the state witnesses should the state wish to prosecute NUP leadership” said Dr Bwanika as he laughed.

He said that if Bobi Wine and NUP amateurs thought the state was after these lower members who have been going through hell, then NUP is dreaming because NUP it’s self was the target and they are in for it.

” If Bobi Wine secured the freedom of his friends, Eddie Mutwe and Nubian Lee politically ,what was wrong with securing freedom for all the others politically?. Does he know what it means to be charged under a court martial? Asked Dr Bwanika.

Bwanika was speaking on CBS “parliament yamwe” program with fellow MP s Hon Migadde ( Buvuma), Yusuf Nsibambi ( Mawokota) and the Lord Mayor, Hajj Erias Lukwago last Saturday.

The program host Medi Nsereko had asked the panelists to give their interpretation of the newly released NUP supporters after they denounced NUP and took confessions to involvement in subversive activities before they got pardoned.

The program initially dwelt much on Kiteezi aftermath which saw top bosses getting charged .

Bwanika blamed NUP leadership for what is likely to befall them.

He said he had supporters in Masaka who were arrested after last elections but somehow he got them out of danger saying he had suggested to NUP to follow suit but they rejected his advice.

Meanwhile Hon Nsibambi, a lawyer and a law teacher at Muk said the NUP supporters incident was more political than legal and he wouldn’t blame NUP supporters because they had gone through alot.

The Lord Mayor Hajj Lukwago said the NUP supporters issue was a real legal challenge but said no one could blame them .

Last week when they had just got released, Hon Bobi Wine castigated the state for squeezing them into confessions saying such was not good rule of law.

He said NUP had fought tooth and nail to secure their freedom.by providing a strong legal team but they were frustrated.

He said even efforts to visit then in prisons were always subourtaged by the State only allowing NUP teams to carry out guided visits with agents around.

” Government teams like Hon Balamu the state minister for youth has been visiting NUP supporters even on weekends when they couldn’t allow us ‘ said Bobi.

He said it’s good some of those who were forced were out and no body would judge them given what they passed through.

He however praised some others NUP supporters who are still in jail after refusing to confess saying the NUP legal teams will continue fighting for their release.
