CRIME: police arrest 8 over Mityana Robberies

EIGHT people were Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 arrested by police in connection to Mobile money agent attacks and other robberies around Mityana municipality recently.

Police named the suspects as Brian Mubiru, alias Kagawa alias David, Musa Jjuko,Hakim Mugahi, aka kim, Yahaya Lukwago alias Musiramu, Rogers Kibuule, , Innocent Tumwekwase alias CMI, Matovu Malik and Dennis Kawooya.

According to the Wamala region police spokes person, Racheal Kawala, the suspects are linked to an incident in which a mobile money and bank agent was robbed of several items worth shs14 million by assailants armed with pangas.

The incident happened in Buswabulongo cell Busimbi Division, Mityana municipality Mityana District on October,10, 2024 at around 9pm as Henry Mugwanya, 37 a mobile money and bank agent was attacked as he returned home.

“During this robbery, unknown people armed with pangas and sticks attacked the victim and his wife while they were going home from work in his vehicle and robbed him of his six posh machines, a Samsung A15 Galaxy, two itel mobile smart phones, two Button itel phones all valued at shs14 million,” Kawala said.

The robbers used a vehicle to block the victim in a narrow access road to his home and then used pangas to cut the victim and also damaged his vehicle and threatened to kill him if he didn’t give them money.

It was alleged that the suspects agreed to participating in the robberies upon arrest and cases of agrevated robbery were entered.

Police said it recovered several exhibits including
a Samsung Galaxy A14 belonging to the businessman, a Toyota Wish, registration number UBB 560K allegedly used in the robbery, two motorcycles, a police field force unit warm suit, a pair of handcuffs, pangas, marijuana, police jungle boosts and an army head dress among others.
