JINJA CITY
THE atmosphere is ripe and all roads are leading to Jinja after security granted permission for Jinja Club to host the 9th edition of the Nyege Nyege Festival.
The event , one of East Africa’s largest music and arts gatherings is set to take place from November 14 to 17.
The festival comes with a lot of dance, drinking, fun and night life to it’s fullest and all hotels and lodging sale out due to numbers of attendees who come from around the country and abroad.
Police Director of Operations, Frank Mwesigwa, and UPDF 1st Division Commander Brig. Stephano Mugerwa led a team of security personnel, including members from the Special Forces Command and Internal Security Organizations, in a site inspection and finally graced the event.
This comes at a time when a section of elders and religious leaders are castigating the festival saying it doesn’t uphold moral standards within the community.
But some local stakeholders, including representatives from the Busoga Kingdom, see the festival as beneficial especially on the economic side of it.
The Busoga kingdom spokesman, Andrew Ntange said the festival is making strides in the positive direction with alot of economic gains.
He said it’s very optional urging those who think it is full of immorality not to attend,.
