SIX people were killed and eight others critically injured on Thursday morning when the commuter omnibus, popularly known as Drone, they were travelling in rammed into the back of a parked sugarcane truck on the Jinja-Iganga Highway at Kakira.

The horrible accident happened at around 3am, when a Toyota Hiace (registration UBP 574J) travelling from Iganga side rammed into the back of a parked sugarcane truck (registration UAF 333B).

According to eye witnesses ,the speeding taxi from Namisindwa District crashed into the back of the stationary truck, killing six people on the spot.

Mable Asingwire, the Kiira Region Traffic Officer, said that, “The accident resulted in the loss of six lives on the spot, and the injured passengers were taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention,”

The injured were taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to the hospital mortuary.

This stretch is very dangerous for accidents along Jinja-Iganga Highway requiring motorists to take extra caution including speed reductions.
