DRAMA is steadily unfolding at ULS as Mr Isaac Ssemakadde dismisses his alleged sacking by the secretary general Mr Phillip Munaabi.
In a hot tweet, Sunday 24,2024, Ssemakadde called Munaabi’s move as a failed coup and immediately he himself Ssemakadde announce he had sacked Munaabi and the committee member Mr Geoffrey Turyasiima indefinitely.
This followed a document signed by Mr Munaabi on Saturday purportedly sacking Ssemakadde and his vive president Mr Anthony Asiimwe.
In his communication, Ssemakadde said Munaabi fell short of sitting the executive council committee as he said since he acted alone with Turyasiima.
He said the ULS president, vice president, treasurer and committee members from the regions of North, South and Western were unaware of such move and blamed Munaabi for forging members signatures.
He said Munaabi’s document was considered fake and unauthentic and sacked him together with Turyasiima until the general meeting of December.
The communication announced that ULS had appointed Mr Eddie Nangulu as the interim secretary general.
Munaabi now refuted document had explained that
Ssemakadde’s sacking followed a series of allegations misconduct and mismanagement.
It said the decision was made after a majority of Council members appealed to Mr Ssemakadde to apologise for his actions, only their appeals to go in vain.
It alleged that members then passed a resolution which was overwhelmingly supported with the aim of putting the ULS on its alleged supposed track.
It blamed the two leaders conspired to handle financial matters, including online bank approvals, without Council knowledge or approval.
It said Mr Asiimwe’s actions were reportedly done illegally, as he is not a mandated signatory for the ULS’s finances.
Further indicating that two were also accused of creating a management crisis at the ULS, particularly by spreading unfounded allegations of witch-hunt against ULS staff.
It said the actions have reportedly caused tension and instability within the organisation.
To sum up every thing Munaabi address the set up an Internal Caretaker Committee led by himself with alleged primary responsibility of steering the Society through this turbulent period before warning those he expelled including their aides and agents not to access ULS premises or they get charged.
Recently Mr Ssemakadde through an executive order, kicked the Attorney-General and Solicitor General from the ULS Council, a matter which has brought legal battles.
A week ago , he stoked the anger of many when he spoke about the Director of Public Prosecution, Ms Jane Frances Abodo, using uncouth language.
Several entities, including the Ministry of Ethics and Integrity, have asked Mr Ssemakadde to apologise while the DPP threatened to sue him.
In early September, Mr Ssemakadde was voted the winner of the ULS presidential contest with about 2101 votes against 890 votes for his challenger, Mr Isaac Atukunda.
Mr Ssemakadde raised expectations when he chorused his determination to take ULS to another level.
During his maiden talk, he said ,” I am committee to serving you with integrity and transparency…..”.
Following what is stalling at ULS, the public is yet to know which camp is feeding them on the truth and nothing but the truth.
