The Islamic Primary Leaving Examination (IPLE) Board, under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), has released the official timetable for end-of-year examinations for learners who have completed seven years of Islamic Theological Studies at primary schools across the country.
The announcement was made during a media briefing held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala. The session was presided over by Dr. Sheikh Ziyadi Swaleh Lubanga, the UMSC Director of Sharia, representing Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, the Secretary for Education.
In his remarks, Dr. Lubanga expressed gratitude to parents for supporting their children’s education by paying school fees, to Islamic schools for their dedication to teaching, and to learners for their perseverance over the past seven years. He extended special thanks to the IPLE Board for their diligent efforts in managing Islamic education, safeguarding examination integrity, and professionally handling results.
Dr. Lubanga also urged Islamic schools not yet registered with the UMSC Department of Education to do so promptly, emphasizing that registration ensures the authenticity of their existence and the academic certificates they issue. He further encouraged Islamic teachers to pursue higher qualifications to keep up with evolving educational demands, citing opportunities to study at affordable rates at Insan International University, located at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala.
Speaking earlier, Haj Mahmood Kateregga Namuguzi Sebuganda, Chairperson of the National Education Committee, cautioned all education stakeholders to avoid malpractice in handling education matters.
Sheikh Ismail Kyeyune, the IPLE Board Secretary, outlined the examination timetable. The process begins with candidate briefing sessions on Friday, November 29, 2024. Examinations will start on Monday, December 2, 2024, with Qur’an in the morning and Al Fiqh in the afternoon. On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the exams will conclude with Logat Arabiyya in the morning and Attarbiyyat Islamiyat in the afternoon.
Sheikh Kyeyune also reported a significant increase in the number of schools and candidates under the IPLE Board. In 2023, 5,311 students were registered from 291 centers, compared to 6,491 students from 360 centers this year.
He paid special tribute to His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, and Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu for fostering an environment that has enabled the Board to fulfill its mandate. He also thanked the Ministry of Education, school heads, parents, learners, and security agencies for their contributions to the smooth running of operations. Finally, he advised headteachers to collect examination parcels for their centers from designated police stations.
The event was attended by Sheikh Muhammad Murshid Luwemba, Secretary for Dawah (Islamic Propagation), IPLE staff members, and other dignitaries.
