Besigye Remanded Again After Legal Deadlock At Army Court

MAKINDYE

THE General Court Martial in Makindye Monday 2, November returned Dr Dr Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale on remind after several defense lawyers were denied entry by security personnel.

Court started in drama as a section of Besigye’s legal team among them Senior Counsel Martha Karua, Erias Lukwago, Eron Kiiza and others were initially denied entry.

This forced the Partial defense team which had been cleared to expresse frustration, insisting the trial could not proceed without proper legal representation for the accused which forced Gen Freeman Mugabe the court chairman to adjourn for twenty minutes.
Initially counsel Ernest kalibbala who proceeded in court from on set asked court to clear the lawyers who had been denied access for staying with their phones saying they were restrained from proceeding without their colleague counsel lawyers.

Lukwago would later after talking to his fellow legals that court ought to adjourn until their team is well prepared and their supposed team leader former Kenya justice minister Martha Karua given clearence by Uganda law council.

Gen Mugabe later adjourned the matter to December 10, 2024.

The mood at court was high with Mrs Besigye Winnie Byanyima present and supporters chanting encouragements for Besigye.
