THE United Kingdom (UK) based anti corruption expert , Mr Nickolas Rowell has tipped Uganda anti corruption agencies on how to successfully over come the vice.

Rowell was being hosted Wednesday 4,2024 by Brig Gen Henry Isoke as part of the Anti-corruption week activities.

The UK based Anti-Corruption Compliance Consultant was making a presentation on “How to Stop the Supply Side of Corruption”.

In his presentation, Mr. Rowell emphasized the need for Government to enact laws that will require institutions, public and private, to establish anti-corruption compliance programs and policies that will eliminate corruption in their operations.

He observed that, where strong internal controls have been implemented and constantly reviewed, corruption has been eliminated.

He further observed that, such internal controls should be regularly updated, transactions monitored and randomly audited.

He advised that, red flags which could be a sign of corruption or fraud should never be ignored.

He noted that, complaince needs, vary according to size and corruption risks within different institutions.

To eradicate corruption, Mr. Rowell outlined a number of procedures that institutions should prioritize to strengthen compliance.

He underscored the need for all the Anti-Corruption Agencies in Uganda to strengthen cooperation, in order to exploit their collective potential.

Hon. Beti Kamya, who was the Chief Guest, appreciated Mr. Nicholas Rowell for his insightful presentation.

She observed that “when you side step rules, the result is corruption”.

Hon. Kamya expressed the desire for the Anti-Corruption Agencies to work with Mr. Rowell and tap into his vast experience in building viable systems to fight corruption in institutions.

ln attendence were representatives of Anti-Corruption Agencies, including; Office of the auditor general, ISO, the financial intelligence agency and others.
